Customs that have come through the shop
Alongside the production brands, Bear Mountain Outfitters carries handmade knives from independent makers. Each one is a single piece — forged, ground and fitted by one person, and never repeated. This is a record of eighteen that have passed through the shop, from five makers including our own bench.

Jake2Jake
Jake2Jake forge their own steel — a core of 80CrV2 layered out into damascus, with motorcycle chain folded into the billet on several of these — and set it into jaw bone, ivory and stone. Every one came with a hand-stitched leather sheath. Eight of them passed through the shop.

Patrick Famin
Patrick Famin builds out-the-front knives by hand, down to making the screws himself. The bolsters are mokume-gane — a laminated non-ferrous metal first worked in Japan around three hundred years ago to decorate sword fittings, and about as far from a production OTF as a knife gets.

Swedish damascus blade, a bolster laminated from gold, brass and bronze, and an iron wood handle. Famin made every part of this knife including the hardware — the most involved single piece the shop has carried.

Three made in the shop by Ted Hill. American damascus and 440C, hand-formed brass, and leather sheaths hand-stitched and star-burst dyed. Built to be carried into a field rather than kept in a drawer.

We do not list customs online, because by the time a page is updated they are usually gone. The shop is at 35 Hypolita Street in historic St. Augustine — call ahead and we will tell you what is on the bench and in the case today.

Specifications are as the maker supplied them at the time; where a maker did not publish a dimension, no figure is shown rather than estimated.
